High School P.E.
The Pine City Physical Education Program focuses on the development of fitness for life. Our program contributes to each student’s growth and development in the physical, mental, and social domains through being physically active. Physical Education is an important and unique part of the daily instructional program. It contributes to the development and maintenance of fitness, motor skills, social skills, health and cognitive development. Pine City’s physical education goal is to foster and maintain each student’s best level of health.
Typical Daily Routine:
- Attendance in bleachers or squads
- Cognitive concepts (Overall learning goal for the day)
- Warm-ups (running laps, dynamic stretching, etc.)
- Skill development, Lead up games, Game play
- Cool down/Closing words
- Classes will be dismissed from bleachers
GRADING
Grading Scale:
A+ = 98 A = 94 A- = 90
B+ = 87 B = 84 B- = 80
C+ = 77 C = 74 C- = 70
D+ = 67 D = 64 D- = 60
Participation, Behavior, Dress: 60% of Quarter Grade
Based upon participation, sportsmanship(behavior) and prepared in athletic uniform. Students earn points daily, these points are based on there level of involvement in class activities.
** If student does not change for physical education they will be held out of activity for that day, resulting in a loss daily points - no make-up allowed. If student does not comply with the dress expectations 3 times per quarter, detention will be given.
Skills/Knowledge Observation: 20% of Grade
Ability, mechanics, and effort to master skills being taught. Demonstration of working with others and showing leadership during activity. Scores received during any skills tests and or observations throughout the unit.
Fitness Test: 20% of Grade- Physical fitness testing, these include mile run, pull ups, sit ups, and sit and reach.
Make-up work for days absent is offered.
The student may complete an online Make-Up Article Review.
Make up assignment is due within two weeks following the date of absence.
Notes & Excuses-
In order to be excused from class participation, a note from a parent, school nurse, or doctor must be brought
to your teacher at the beginning of your period. Lack of a note means participation points will be a zero for the
day. You must have a written medical slip to be excused for more than a day.
Materials-
Materials used will be equipment (balls, sticks, exercise videos, etc.) suitable to the activity being taught.
Students are expected to respect all equipment being used and help put away at the conclusion of each class.
Lockers & Locks-
Each student will be issued a locker and combination lock.
If lock is lost, a new one will be issued at the cost of $5.00.
Units to be Covered:
Basketball, Broomball, Fitness, Floor Hockey, Football, Frisbee, La Crosse,
Softball, Table Tennis, Tennis, Volleyball, and other recreational games
